To the editor:
Wow, what a change we have seen in our world in the last month.
We live in uncertain times, and I think one of the best things Jay County Public Library can do for you is to stay in touch.
We hated to close our building and services to the community. But, we know that we have to do our part in helping slow the spread of COVID-19 in our community.
With a quickly changing environment our staff has sprung into action to make sure we continue to provide as much service as possible in whatever ways we can. The first example of that was providing curbside delivery, before the stay-at-home order came down from our governor.
Second, we have a variety of digital content accessible from our website. Overdrive and Hoopla are our main sources of electronic content — books, magazines, music, movies, TV shows, and more. I know that not all of us are familiar with Overdrive and Hoopla, so our staff is working on putting together instructional materials to help you along the way. If you get stuck please contact us. We would be glad to help.
Third, through our Facebook page, we have already started delivering virtual programming — story time for children on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and a family craft time on Wednesdays.
We are going to continue to explore ways in which we can provide services to you during this time before we can re-open our building. Providing virtual services is not the same, of course, as real service. A library is not a library without you, the people who use it. We miss you and look forward to seeing you again at some point down the road.
Our best wishes to all of you and your families and friends during this difficult time.
