Obituary
Calvin Philip Loy, age 93, of Portland passed away Sunday morning in Bethlehem Woods Nursing Care in Fort Wayne.
He was born in Portland on July 5, 1926, the son of Herschel and Carrie (May) Loy. He was married to Barbara Jean Loper in 1948 and she passed in 1974. In 1975, he married Barbara Joan Spahr, and she survives.
He was a Portland High School graduate and served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Livermore Destroyer. Calvin was the bookkeeper and clerk for their family business, Loy's Sale Barn. He also was a farmer and raised livestock for over 50 years in Noble Township. He served on the Jay County Fair Board, was a Jay County REMC and Wabash Valley board member, served as Noble Township Trustee, was a member of Portland IOOF Lodge, served on Jay County Public Library Board and attended Noble Christian Church and West Walnut Street Church of Christ.
Surviving are one son, Rick A. Loy (wife: Beth) of Portland; two daughters, Nancy Pease (husband: Stephen) of Fort Wayne and Judith Ann Stolz (husband: James) of Lexington, Indiana; two stepdaughters, Kay Corle (husband: Jeff) of Portland and Jane Hernandez (husband: Oscar) of Fort Wayne; one sister, Alice Strohl (husband: Hugh) of Portland; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; and eight step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Donald Loy and Ernie Loy; and step-sons Robert Spahr and Mike Spahr.
Private graveside services will be held in the Spring Hill Cemetery in Fort Recovery, Ohio. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Memorials can be made to Jay County Fairgrounds, Jay County Historical Society or Fort Recovery VFW.
