Asbury United Methodist Church is hosting a food drive for the Helping Hand Food Bank at Community and Family Services in Portland.

The food bank is in need of items that are easy for kids to make while they are home, as well as things that can provide multiple meals on a budget.

Items might include: canned vegetables, canned potatoes, canned fruit, canned meat, spaghetti, pasta sauce, macaroni and cheese, crackers, chili beans, tomato sauce, Ramen noodles, dry boxed dinners (like Hamburger Helper), rice, oatmeal, canned soups, pancake mix, syrup, peanut butter, jelly, ketchup, applesauce, flour, sugar, toilet paper, paper towel, toothpaste, toothbrushes, floss, deodorant, feminine hygiene products, and any other basic hygiene product.

Items can be dropped off at the Portland Fire Station any time this week.

Enter through the glass doors at the front. There will be a table available for donations.

Church members plan to make a delivery to the food bank on Monday.

Also canceled

The Fort Recovery High School Alumni Committee has decided to cancel the June 23 alumni banquet due to COVID-19.

The alumni group will be presenting eight scholarships totaling $10,000 to members of the 2020 Fort Recovery High School graduating class.

Those will be presented at commencement rather than at the banquet.

Donations to the scholarship fund should be mailed to Fort Recovery High School Alumni, P.O. Box 378, Fort Recovery, Ohio 45846.

Giving it a try

The Farmers Market at Minnetrista in Muncie will be open on a modified basis beginning Saturday, May 2, from 9 a.m. to noon.

Classified as an essential community service by the Delaware County Health Department, the market will be operated in accordance with all guidelines related to COVID-19, Minnetrista spokesmen said.

The market will take place in Minnetrisa’s main parking lot, with vendors spaced out appropriately.

Parking is located at the Delaware County Fairgrounds, just west of Minnetrista.

There will be a single entrance and exit, and no more than 50 individuals will be allowed into the market at any one time. No cooked food or beverages will be made onsite and all wagons that are available will be wiped down between uses.

Vendors will be provided masks and gloves and hand sanitizer stations will be available to patrons.

Shoppers visiting the market should wear masks.
