VAN WERT, Ohio — Jalyn Bruns beat her own school record.
The Indians set a new one as a team, too.
Bruns bested her school record round by four shots and the Fort Recovery High School girls golf team had a new low total as well on Monday as the Indians finished runner-up at the Lincolnview Lancer Invitational at Willow Bend Country Club.
Wayne Trace won the six-tea tournament with 367, and Fort Recovery’s record round was 377. Fairview was third with 396.
Bruns, a junior, shot 79 to lead the Indians and lower her school record of 83 she set the beginning of her sophomore year.
Classmate Shelby Stammen shot 90 for second on the team, and Alli Vaughn’s 97 was third. Kendra Dues completed the team score with her 111, edging teammate Trisha Gaerke by one stroke.
Therapeutics wins title
Jay County Therapeutics claimed the Portland Junior League Minor softball championship Friday by beating Crossroads Financial Federal Credit Union by a 10-5 score.
Natalie May hit a home run to lead Therapeutics, which also got two singles from Brena Brewster and Emily Young. Carley Trinidad struck out eight batters.
Brooklynn Bright homered for Crossroads, and Ella Champ tallied three singles. Hailee Randal doubled and singled, while Karsyn Schwieterman had one single. Hallie Schwieterman also fanned eight batters.
Loy’s takes crown
Loy’s Realty held off Local 1620 to win the Sandy Koufax championship on Monday.
Sebastian Jones led Loy’s with a triple, and Jamie Mapes doubled. Peyton Yowell singled twice, while Gavin Young and Isaac Scott both singled.
Landon Blowers (double) and Landon Garringer (single) had the only two hits for Local 1620.
Matt’s outlasts Williams
Despite being out-hit 20-16, Matt’s Garage earned an 11-8 victory against Williams Auth Parts on Monday in PJL’s Rookie baseball division.
Deric Coons hit a home run, a triple and a single with three runs and an RBI to lead Matt’s. Benson Armstrong collected three doubles, five RBIs and three runs, while Easton Steed hit three singles with three RBIs and a run.
Eli Westgerdes hit two home runs with a double and a single to go alongside his four RBIs and three runs in the Williams loss. Kellen Keys recorded two doubles and two singles. Javier Casillas hit a triple and two singles.
Flamespray triumphs
Flamespray Machine Service was triumphant over PG-14 by a 10-4 score on Monday in PJL’s Willie Mays division.
Kaden Carpenter doubled with three RBIs for Flamespray, which got a double and two RBIs from Leighton Brown. Varen Ridgeway and Nick Snow both had two singles, and Snow knocked in a pair of runs.
Xavien Maxwell and Alex Huntsman had two singles each for PG-14. Jace Vance, Samuel Wiggins and Andrew Myers all singled. Grant Fennig and Myers both knocked in runs.
