A Muncie arts organization has a new leader.
Cornerstone Center for the Arts recently announced Allison K. Bell as its new president and CEO. She started her new position Aug. 3.
Bell is a Muncie resident who most recently edited the book “Back from the Shadow of Death” by Muncie native Marwin Strong. She has worked for nearly 20 years in educational administration and teaching.
“Cornerstone offers opportunities for children and adults that are critical for enjoyment, creative problem-solving, and the expansion of learning potential,” she said in a press release. “The classes offer not only innovative education for children and adults, but also bring diverse people together to share new, collaborative visions and make them a reality.”
Bell earned her bachelor’s degree from Duke University and went on to earn a master’s degree in broadcast journalism from Northwestern University.
Hosting concert
Hummel Drive-in in Winchester will be one of the theaters hosting the Metallica Drive-In Concert Experience on Aug. 29.
The concert will be Metallica’s first performance since September 2019. Three Days Grace is also scheduled to perform.
Tickets went on sale Friday and are available at ticketmaster.com.
Director named
Ivy Tech Community College Fort Wayne recently named Tracina Smith as its new executive director of resource development.
Smith will develop and implement the fundraising plan for the school’s Fort Wayne Campus. She is a Fort Wayne native and graduate of Alabama A&M.
CVS hiring
CVS announced this week that it will be hiring hundreds of new employees in Arizona.
The pharmacy and retail outlet plans to add seasonal full- and part-time licensed pharmacy technicians in anticipation of increased demand for flu vaccines.
“Additional team members typically are needed every fall flu season,” said CVS region director Tobin Zdarko in a press release. “However, we are estimating a much greater need for pharmacy technicians this year given the anticipated rise in demand for flu shots and other immunizations, along with the continued presence of COVID-19 in the community.”
New centers
Dollar General recently announced that it plans to expand its distribution chain with four new facilities.
The convenience store chain plans to add a traditional distribution center in Walton, Kentucky, as well as cold storage facilities in Bowling Green, Kentucky, Ardmore, Oklahoma, and West Sacramento, California. The addition of the new facilities is expected to result in 600 new jobs.
“Dollar General’s supply chain network plays a critical role in ensuring the products customers need and want are delivered to our nearly 17,000 stores in a timely and consistent manner,” Dollar General executive vice president of global supply chain Mike Kindy said in a press release. “The addition of these facilities continues to drive efficiency and service through our exceptional supply chain network. We are grateful for the continued partnerships with state and local leaders in each of these communities.”
Seeking guidance
McDonald’s announced last week that it is working with Mayo Clinic for advice about how to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus.
Officials from McDonald’s and Mayo Clinic are meeting regularly to discuss the pandemic.
“This public health crisis is far from over,” said McDonald’s president and CEO Chris Kempczinski in a press release. “Living by our core value of putting our customers and people first means we will continue to evolve our efforts to meet their needs and provide a safe and clean environment in McDonald’s restaurants around the world. Consulting with Mayo Clinic allows us to further apply leading edge science to our restaurant practices.”
NextEra earnings up
NextEra Energy recently reported net income of $1.275 billion for the second quarter of 2020.
Adjusted earnings came in at $1.286 billion ($2.61 per share), up from $1.133 billion ($2.35 per share) during the same quarter of 2019.
NextEra operates Bluff Point Wind Energy Center in southern Jay County and northern Randolph County.
“NextEra Energy’s financial performance for the second quarter reflects strong operating performance across all of its businesses, with adjusted earnings per share increasing more than 11% year-over-year,” said Jim Robo, chairman and CEO of NextEra Energy, in a press release. “Despite the challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic, all of our businesses continue to perform well ...”
CVS tops $65 billion
CVS this week announced second-quarter total revenue of $65.3 billion.
Total revenue was up from $63.4 billion during the same quarter in 2019.
Yum! declares
Yum! Brands this week announced a second-quarter dividend of 47 centers per share. It will be distributed to shareholders on Sept. 11.
Yum! is the parent company of Pizza Hut, Taco Bell and KFC.
