Michael Bishop
Michael J. Bishop of Dunkirk, Indiana, formerly of Madison Township, passed away at his home, Friday, Aug. 14, 2020.
Born on July 22, 1939, in Dunkirk, he was the son of Clyde and Maxine (Overmyer) Bishop. Mike was a 1957 graduate of Dunkirk High School. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Ball State Teacher’s College and, after working in research and development at Ball Corporation, taught middle and high school math and science for 25 years.
Mike was an inquisitive person who enjoyed genealogy, collecting rare books, spending time in his woods, gardening, traveling, vacations, renovating Victorian homes, antiquing, farming and spending time with friends and family. He was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity and the Elks Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, Patte; five children, Mike, Shelley, Lisa and Matt Bishop, all of Dunkirk, and Lindsey Bishop of Louisville, Kentucky; three sisters, Nancy Miller, Carolyn (Michael) Turner, and Sandra (Richard) Buckner, all of Dunkirk; seven grandchildren, Michael, Christina, Brittany, Brooke, Zach, Noah and Nathan; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visiting hours will be Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2020 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Wilson Shook Funeral & Cremation Center, Dunkirk Memorial Chapel, Dunkirk, Indiana, with burial following at Dunkirk IOOF Cemetery, Dunkirk, Indiana. Face mask and social distancing will be required.
A suggested memorial to Mike is to plant a tree in his memory.
