Capsule report
Drunk driving
A Portland woman was arrested and is being held in Jay County Jail after she apparently drove into three utility poles while westbound on county road 200 South just west of its intersection with county road 500 East and tried fleeing the scene at around 7:40 p.m. Wednesday.
Chelsea L. Crossland, 25, 1237 N. U.S. 27, Portland, was later found hiding in a corn field, according to a Jay County Sheriff’s Office accident report, and charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and resisting an officer, both Class A misdemeanors, and failure to stop, a Class B misdemeanor. She is being held on $1,500 bond.
After she was found, Crossland had a preliminary alcohol breath test of 0.15, above the legal limit of 0.08. Between $10,000 to $25,000 in damage was caused to the utility poles, two of which were broken in half, and Crossland’s 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse.
