Elvin Towell
Obituary
Elvin L. Towell, age 92, of Portland passed away Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2020, at Miller's Merry Manor in Dunkirk.
He was born in Randolph County on Aug. 20, 1928, the son of Harold and Vera Ethel (Stauffer) Towell. He retired from CTS in Berne and was a Jackson Township farmer.
He was a 1949 Bryant High School graduate and served with the U.S. Navy during World War II on the USS Missouri. He was a member of the Portland Moose Lodge and American Legion Post #211.
Surviving are two sons, Harold Towell (wife: Sandy) of Portland and Charles Towell of Geneva; three daughters, Wanda Ballard (husband: Darrel) of Parrish, Florida, Marilyn McCord (husband: Russell) of Fort Wayne and Margaret Lane of South Carolina; one brother, Roy Emery of Fort Recovery; one sister, Clara Reitenour of Monterey, Tennessee; 15 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son John Towell; two brothers, Marvin Towell and Harry Emery; and sister Ruth McMichael.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Aug. 31 at 10 a.m. in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with Pastor Herb Hummel presiding. Burial will follow in the Saratoga Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post #211. Visitation will be Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.
