A guest speaker is coming to Fort Recovery next weekend.
Fort Recovery State Museum will host Joe Beatty at 3 p.m. Sept. 6 at Fort Recovery Cooper Pavilion in Community Park.
Beatty, a Houston, Texas, resident, will lead a discussion titled “Fort Jefferson: Past, Present and Future.”
Fort Jefferson was one of a series of forts built extending north from Fort Washington in Cincinnati. Beatty’s ancestors, Samuel and Erkuries Beatty, were among the military officers involved in their construction under Gen. Arthur St. Clair. Samuel Beatty died in the Nov. 4, 1971, Battle of the Wabash at Fort Recovery while Erkuries was one of those able to retreat to Fort Jefferson.
Members of The Friends of Fort Jefferson will also have artifacts and exhibits on display from the Fort Jefferson archeological dig of 1930. There will also be slides and charts displaying information about the fort, which was built in October 1971.
The presentation at the park, 401 W. Milligan St., is free and open to the public. For more information, email [email protected] or call (419) 375-4649
