Obituary
Berneice L. Franks, age 83, of Portland passed away Friday, Aug. 28, 2020, at her residence. She was born in Portland on Nov. 24, 1936, the daughter of William and Nellie (Carl) Scott. She was married in 1955 to Francis E. Franks and he passed away in 2005. Berneice was a homemaker and a member of Evangelical Methodist Church, Portland Eagles and American Legion Aux.
Surviving are five sons, Richard Franks (wife: Michelle) of Portland, John Franks (wife: Branda) of Portland, Dave Franks (wife: Nancy) of Portland, Darrel Derringer of Portland and Mike Franks (wife: Janis) of Evansville; one sister, Alberta Bowler of Redkey; 16 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by six brothers, Johnny Scott, Tom Scott, Danny Scott, Robert Scott, Frank Scott and Andrew Scott; and three sisters, Sarah Aslinger, Agnes Welch and Mary Jane Scott.
Graveside services will be Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2020, at 10 a.m. in the Liber Cemetery with Pastor Steve Arnold presiding. Visitation will be Tuesday from 3 to 7 p.m. in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home.
Memorials can be made to the Jay County Cancer Society.
