Obituary
Chris S. Jackson, age 36, of rural Portland passed away Sunday, Aug. 23, 2020.
He was born in Portland on Sept. 5, 1983, the son of Doug and Debbie (Chittum) Jackson. He was studying for his master’s degree at Ball State University and was a student teacher.
He served in the U.S. Navy, being stationed in Connecticut and Hawaii. He graduated from Jay County High School in 2002 and earned his bachelor of science degree in biology and business from Ball State.
He was a member of the Portland Elks Lodge and American Legion. He was an avid Trivial Pursuit player and enjoyed playing poker and being around wildlife.
Surviving are his parents Doug and Debbie Jackson of Portland; two sisters, Danielle Newell (husband: Tyler) of Portland and Rachelle Jackson (fiancé: Clark Snyder) of Clayton, Indiana; nieces Kali Newell and Kennedy Newell; and grandparents Larry and Donna Chittum of Portland, and Jim and Vera Jackson of Portland. He is also survived by Bruce the bird.
Memorial services will be Monday, Aug. 31 at 7 p.m. in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with Jim Langham presiding. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m.
