To the editor:
First of all, this will not be a very long letter to the editor but I need to do this before I forget.
I totally agree with Ray Cooney on his editorial concerning leaving Facebook and maybe other social media outlets. Even though I use Facebook it has become, at times, a very vicious and nasty platform.
I must admit that I have posted things on Facebook that I would not say in face-to-face communication with people. I think at times Facebook gives you a feeling of hidden security.
And, as Ray points out, the newspaper is a business and as a business needs to have sufficient income to continue in operation. I, for one, do not want to see the paper close down. It is a very valuable resource for a small community anywhere.
OK, now on to the next point. I told you this would not be a long letter.
I am so proud of my church, Asbury United Methodist, in the great community service it did on Thanksgiving by passing out Thanksgiving dinners to anyone who visited their drive-thru. It did not matter what denomination you were, a dinner was available for you and a spouse, friend or relative.
On listening to my Sunday sermon, I heard Pastor Joe Boggs say that over 500 dinners were passed out.
All of the people responsible for the planning, preparation, assistance and any other aspect of the meal need to be congratulated for their service to Christ and the public. If I start to mention names I know I will forget some, but I do want to mention Carol Smith, who has been so instrumental in our yearly Thanksgiving dinner for the church. She has given much time and effort over the many decades in her service to Christ and the church.
Just some of my thoughts. Thank you for reading.
