Obituary
Gary “Joe” Anderson, 78, lifelong resident of Redkey, Indiana, passed away on Monday, Nov. 30, 2020 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, Indiana.
He was born on Aug. 20, 1942, in Portland, Indiana, to the late Ralph “Rock” Anderson and Leona (Reese) Spillman.
Gary married Anna Sue Piercey on March 7, 1959, celebrating 56 years of marriage before her death in 2015. He retired as an operator from Ball Glass in Dunkirk, Indiana, in 1997 after more than 38 years of employment.
He took pride in being active in his community coaching baseball, mentoring cadet firefighters as a volunteer fireman and organizing and participating in the Jay County Conservation Club bowhunters’ leagues. He enjoyed archery, bow hunting, participating in War of 1812 reenactments, watching his grandkids’ sports, fishing and playing corn hole. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Gary is survived by his daughters, Rhonda Moore of Redkey, Indiana, and Toni Van Horn (Mark) of Noblesville, Indiana; grandson, Cody Hatzell of Geneva, Indiana; five great-grandchildren; Caydence, Presley and Bella Louck, Chloe and Michelle Hatzell, and special friend, Sue Van Horn.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph “Rock” and Gladys Anderson and Leona (Reese) and Cy Spillman; wife, Anna Sue; sisters, Beverly Whipple and Phyllis “Pebble” Simpson; and granddaughter, Heather Louck.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, Dec. 6, 2020, from noon to 2 p.m. in Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 N. Indiana 3, Muncie, with funeral services immediately following at 2 p.m., also in the funeral home, officiated by Randy Davis. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Muncie.
