Obituary
Gene Geesaman, age 88, a resident of rural Jay County passed away Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2020, at Village Green in Greenville, Ohio.
He raised chickens and farmed in Bearcreek Township, Jay County, for many years. He graduated from Redkey High School and was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Portland American Legion Post 211 and the VFW of Geneva. Gene was an avid fan of the Jay County High School boys and girls basketball teams.
Gene Geesaman was born Feb. 22, 1932, in Dunkirk, Indiana, the son of Fred and Mae Violet (Hudson) Geesaman. He was married on Sept. 26, 1952, to Vivian “Bonnie” Reading. She passed on Feb. 7, 2015.
Survivors include:
Three daughters — Dorcas Fields (husband: Dean), Portland, Indiana, Ghlee Thornton (husband: Steve), Ansonia, Ohio, and Delee Rathbun (husband: Tony), Portland, Indiana
Brother — Glen Geesaman, Pennville, Indiana
Sister — Barbara Lea (husband: Donn), Dunkirk, Indiana
Five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson
He was preceded in death by his wife and a son, Dennis Gene Geesaman.
Visitation for Gene Geesaman will be held from noon to 2 p.m. on Monday in the Williamson-Spencer and Penrod Funeral Home in Portland. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Gil Alicia will officiate the service and burial will follow in the Center Cemetery, west of Portland. Portland American Legion Post 211 will be in charge of military rites at the cemetery.
Memorial donation may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association.
