MUNCIE — Fort Recovery’s girls swim team opened its season Monday by winning every event in sweeping duals against Hagerstown and host Delta.

The Indians (2-0) won 79-40 over Hagerstown, and topped Delta 76-43.

Fort Recovery’s boys lost both duals, 44-35 to Hagerstown and 87-19 to Delta.

Ava Bubp and Teigen Fortkamp were both double winners. Bubp was first in the 200-yard freestyle (2 minutes, 9.99 seconds) and 500 freestyle (5:59.51). Fortkamp won the 200 individual medley (2:32.23) and 100 backstroke (1:07.39).

Paige Fortkamp (50 freestyle – 27.06 seconds), Laura Hipple (diving – 139.9 points), Autumn Burk (100 butterfly – 1:07.42) and Audura Bubp (100 breaststroke – 1:17.66) all won their respective events, too.

Fort Recovery’s girls also took first in all three relays.



Wrestlers go 5-0

HAGERSTOWN — Six Patriots didn’t lose a match Saturday.

The team won every dual as well.

A half dozen wrestlers went undefeated Saturday, helping the Jay County High School wrestling team go 5-0 at the Hagerstown Duals.

Jay County improves to 6-1 and hosts both Delta and Yorktown at 6 p.m. tonight.

The Patriots defeated Anderson 70-10 and earned a 78-6 victory against Hagerstown before its closest match of the day, a 39-30 win against Indianapolis Lutheran. The Patriots then shut out Randolph Southern (84-0) and Tri (82-0).

Cody Rowles (106 pounds), Ethan Reiley (120), Tony Wood (126), Cameron Clark (132), RJ Heskett (138), Cameron Clark (152) and Peyton Bennett (285) were all undefeated on the day.



Jay 8th wins two

PORTLAND and UNION CITY — Jay County’s eighth grade boys basketball team earned two wins recently.

The Patriots beat Union City 62-21 on the road Monday after earning a 40-12 win over Woodlan on Saturday. Drew Schemenaur scored nine points to lead Jay County (3-1, 1-1 Allen County Athletic Conference) past Union City, while Jacob Monroe and Kade Sommers had eight points each in the win over Woodlan.

The seventh graders lost to Woodlan 46-32, but rebounded to beat Union City 49-25. Ben Crouch paced the Patriots (1-3) each game, scoring 17 against Union City and 14 against Woodlan.
