The winner of Randolph County’s Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship is an honorary Patriot.
Community Foundation of Randolph County on Tuesday announced Winchester Community High School senior Ella Baldwin as the winner of the scholarship. While competing for the Golden Falcons, Baldwin trains with the Jay County High School girls swim team.
Baldwin plans to study biochemistry and hopes to attend dental school.
The scholarship pays for four years of tuition at any Indiana college or university and provides a stipend for books and other supplies. She was chosen from a field of 27 applicants and five finalists, who were scored on academic ability, extracurricular activities, honors and awards, work experience and community involvement.
“This year the scholarship committee interviewed five outstanding candidates and would be honored to have any one of them representing Randolph County,” said community foundation program officer Brenda Brumfield. “Ella is a shining star amongst her peers.”
The other finalists will receive $1,250 scholarships from the Community Foundation of Randolph County.
Competing in the sectional meet at Jay County, Baldwin placed third in the 100-yard butterfly and fourth in the 200-yard individual medley last season.
