The Patriot wrestlers are on a roll.
Jay County High School’s wrestling team earned two more wins Tuesday, pushing its dual match win streak to seven as it knocked off the Yorktown Tigers and Delta Eagles.
The Patriots (8-1) beat Yorktown 69-12 and topped the Eagles 60-9.
Cody Rowles earned two pins at 106 pounds in a combined 1 minute, 52 seconds. Jayden Maymi (113) got a pin against Yorktown and received a forfeit from Delta. Tony Wood (126) won a 15-0 tech fall and a 9-6 decision in overtime, and Cameron Clark got a pin and a 4-1 decision at 132 pounds.
RJ Heskett earned two pins, including one in 38 seconds, at 138 pounds, and Ian Ruiz won a 14-0 major decision before getting a forfeit at 145 pounds.
Conner Specht was 2-0 at 220 pounds with a forfeit and a pin.
Ethan Reiley (120), Lita Chowning (120), Logan Kelly (182), Bryce Wenk (182), Ryan Herring (195) and Ramon Bravo (285) were all 1-0.
Blake Pruett and Peyton Bennett were 1-1 at 160 and 285 pounds, respectively.
Jay falls to Oak Hill
CONVERSE — The Jay County boys and girls swim teams both dropped their season opener to the Oak Hill Golden Eagles on Tuesday.
The girls lost by a 101-84 margin while the boys lost 110-70.
Eliza Bader and Ashlyn Dow were each dual winners for the Patriot girls. Bader was first in the 200-yard freestyle in 2 minutes, 5.26 seconds, and won the 100 freestyle in 57.81 seconds. Dow won both the 50 freestyle (26.06 seconds) and 100 breaststroke (1:10.69).
Rieley Brewster won the 100 backstroke in 1:09.53. The Patriots also won the 200 and 400 freestyle relays.
Kyle Sanders picked up a victory for the boys in the 50 freestyle (23.88 seconds). Josh Monroe (500 freestyle – 6:05.47) and Griffin Mann (100 breaststroke – 1:10.02) also won their respective events.
The JCHS boys also won the 400 freestyle relay.
FR balanced in win
HARTFORD CITY — Five players scored in double figures for the Fort Recovery girls basketball team in a 72-30 victory over the host Blackford Bruins on Tuesday.
It’s the most points in a game for the Indians (4-2) since scoring 77 in a Jan. 15, 2019, win against South Adams.
Fort Recovery jumped out to a 20-3 lead after the first quarter and went into intermission on top 32-10. A 19-8 margin in the third period made the score swell to 51-18 heading into the fourth.
Alli Vaughn led the Indians with 19 points, 10 of which were in the first quarter and all but three came before halftime. Paige Fortkamp, Mara Pearson and Hope Wendel each tallied 11 points, and Kierra Wendel recorded 10 points.
Gracie Lamotte had six points to lead the Bruins (5-3).
JC wins 6th straight
MUNCIE — Jay County’s girls basketball team won its sixth straight game with a 64-45 triumph against the Muncie Central Bearcats.
The win moved the Patriots, who finally open Allen County Athletic Conference play Friday against Adams Central, to 7-1.
Madison Dirksen poured in 21 points to lead Jay County, and Renna Schwieterman contributed a double-double with 19 points and 17 rebounds.
Jay County’s junior varsity team also won, 43-18. Bralee VanSkyock scored 15 points for the Patriots (5-2).
