DELPHOS, Ohio — The Indians started with a strong offense.
They finished strongly on defense.
Fort Recovery High School’s boys basketball team scored 19 points in the first quarter and allowed just one in the fourth in a 56-30 victory over the host St. John’s Blue Jays on Friday.
The win moved the Indians to 2-1 (1-0 Midwest Athletic Conference) while the Blue Jays dipped to 1-3 (0-1 MAC).
Derek Jutte scored seven of his game-high 19 points in the first quarter to help the Indians jump out to a 19-11 advantage. A 16-point effort in the second put Fort Recovery on top 35-19 at half.
After the break, the Tribe defense buckled down, surrendering just 10 points in the third quarter and just one over the final eight minutes.
Brian Bihn also scored in double figures for Fort Recovery, which travels to Crestview tonight, as he finished with 16 points. Regan Martin contributed eight points, and Owen Jutte ended with seven points.
Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team fell to the Blue Jays, 40-27.
Landon Post led the squad with 11 points, and Caleb Evers chipped in seven points.
