A regional economic development organization will host a series of courses for elected officials in January.
East Central Indiana Regional Partnership announced this week that it will offer four free seminars to newly elected public officials as well as incumbents. They will be held virtually from noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday’s in January.
Speakers will be as follows:
•Jan. 7 — Katie Culp of KSM Location Advisors on economic development from a site selector’s view
•Jan. 14 — Chris King of Runnebohm and Jenny Hartley of Indiana Municipal Power Agency on business attraction and site development
•Jan. 21 — Matt Eckerle of Baker Tilley on incentives best practices
•Jan. 28 — Janet Ady of Ady Advantage on the new role of the economic development professional

Schedule changed
The Commercial Review has altered its publishing schedule and office hours around the Christmas and New Year’s Day holidays.
The Commercial Review will publish its Dec. 24 and Dec. 31 newspapers as morning editions. It will publish its Dec. 26 and Jan. 2 papers as afternoon editions. These changes will allow employees to have Christmas Eve and Christmas Day off.
The CR’s office will also be closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
NextEra honored
NextEra Energy was announced this week as Utility Drive’s Utility of the Year.
The utility publication selected NextEra for its efforts in expanding renewable energy projects, piloting green hydrogen production and delivering power through the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and a record-breaking hurricane season.
NextEra owns and operates Bluff Point Wind Energy Center in Jay and Randolph counties.
Utility Drive interviewed Morgan Stanley analyst Stephen Byrd for its piece about NextEra.
“They’re the number one player in terms of renewable energy, and they are quite innovative,” Byrd said.
Shutting down
The Chesterton Tribune in northwestern Indiana announced this week that it will cease publishing after 136 years.
“A variety of factors led to the decision, including the decline in hands-on print publications and the economic impact of the nation’s failure to curb COVID -19,” the Tribune said on its website.
“The last day of publication will be Wednesday, December 30. Until that time this newspaper will cover local news as if there was no tomorrow,” the Tribune said.
The future of the website is being discussed, the newspaper said.
Arthur Bowser, the owner of Chesterton Realty, first published the paper in 1884, according to a book about Porter County history.
Dollar General announces
Dollar General and the Dollar General Literacy Foundation announced Equal Justice Initiative, Operation Hope and INROADS as its first grant recipients as part of a $5 million effort in support of racial justice and education.
INROADS was awarded $1 million to support internship and education programs for ethnically diverse students. Other funding will support the Equal Justice Initiative’s work to address criminal justice reform and Operation Hope’s push for financial literacy.
“As one of America’s essential retailers, DG remains committed to elevating our mission of Serving Others, while keeping our core value of respecting the dignity and differences of others evident in all we do,” said Dollar General CEO Todd Vasos in a press release.
IBJ publisher retiring
Indianapolis Business Journal publisher Greg Morris has announced that he will retire Dec. 31.
Morris has been in journalism in the Indianapolis area for 43 years, including nearly 30 with the IBJ. A new publisher has not yet been named.
New VP named
Subway on Monday named Lorri Christou its new vice president of public relations, communications and public affairs.
Christou previously worked as vice president of external communications and public relations for Choice Hotels International. She has also worked for Cruise Lines International Association and public relations firms Edelman and Fleishman-Hillard.
