WAPAKONETA, Ohio — The Indians led by 10 after the first quarter. That advantage was nearly doubled by halftime.

Fort Recovery High School’s girls basketball team cruised past host Wapakoneta on Tuesday, 47-26.

The Indians (6-3) opened a 16-6 lead at the end of the first quarter and at halftime the margin had ballooned to 26-9. An 11-8 margin in the third period pushed the Tribe’s advantage to 37-17.

Kierra Wendel led the Indians with 12 points, including a seven-point effort in the third quarter. Paige Fortkamp scored eight of her 10 points in the first quarter, and Whitley Rammel added seven points. Brenna Homan and Alli Vaughn scored six points each.

Fort Recovery’s junior varsity also won, 38-31. Cali Wendel paved the way with seven points.



Boys fall at home

FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery boys basketball team had its hopes of keeping its perfect home record intact doused with a 42-38 loss Tuesday to the Tri-Village Patriots.

The Indians, who had not lost at Fort Site Fieldhouse in two previous tries, dip to 4-3 on the year. The Patriots improved to 7-0.

Fort Recovery managed just five points in the opening quarter and trailed Tri-Village 15-5 at the end of the period. The Tribe clawed its way back, going behind 23-15 at intermission and 31-25 heading into the third quarter.

Regan Martin led FRHS with 13 points, while Owen Jutte and Brian Bihn scored seven points each. Gavin Thobe contributed a half dozen points.

Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team also lost, 54-34. Rex Leverette paced the squad with nine points.



Girls cruise

BERNE — Fort Recovery’s girls swim team won every event Tuesday in taking down the Minster Wildcats 119-37 at South Adams.

The FRHS boys lost, 83-46.

Ava Bubp, Audra Bubp and Teigen Fortkamp were each dual winners for the Tribe girls. Ava Bubp won the 200-yard freestyle and 100 backstroke, while Audra Bubp was first in the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke. Fortkamp handled the 50 and 100 freestyle races.

Autumn Burk (100 butterfly), Shelby Stammen (500 freestyle) and Laura Hipple (diving) also earned individual wins.

The Tribe also won all three relays.

Isaac LeFevre had the only win for the Tribe boys, taking first in diving.
