Shari Franklin

Obituary

On Dec.16, 2020, Shari B. Franklin, age 73, passed away after fighting a courageous battle with post-polio syndrome for over 15 years. She was in her home surrounded by the love of family and friends at Westminster Village in Muncie, Indiana, where she had resided the past six years.

Shari was born on Nov. 13, 1947, in Portland, Indiana, to her loving parents, Harold (Fizz) Younts and Virginia (Ginny) Younts.

She attended Portland schools through her junior year in high school and then graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1965. She also attended Indiana Business College. Shari worked at Marsh Supermarkets in Portland for two decades and then was the owner of Franklin Rentals and Mini-Warehouses for another two decades. She made many incredible friends through her work with both companies over the years.

Shari married the love of her life, Boyd Franklin, on Sept. 18, 1982. They shared 37 years of happiness together. One of their passions was traveling. Together they experienced a wide variety of interesting and exotic places all over the world. She enjoyed spending the summer and fall seasons house boating on Dale Hollow and was very proud of the beautiful home they built together on the top of a mountain overlooking Sulphur Creek. Winters were spent in South Melbourne Beach and Fort Myers, Florida. Later in life she cherished lake life on Lake Tippecanoe in northern Indiana. Above anything else she simply enjoyed being anywhere as long as she was with Boyd, her son and daughter and their spouses, grandchildren and siblings. Family and friends meant the world to her and she invested deeply in their lives.

Shari is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Tanya and Wes Bennett of Noblesville, Indiana, her son and daughter-in-law John and Glenna Redwine of Muncie, Indiana; granddaughter Alyssa (Cody) Gilles of Noblesville, Indiana; grandsons Grant and Jake Redwine of Muncie, Indiana; great-grandchildren Ellie Gilles and Jax Redwine; sister Yonda Young, Columbus, Ohio; brother Kent (Joyce) Younts, Portland, Indiana; sister Sheila (Paul) Miller, Monterey, Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews who were all quite special to her.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Boyd Franklin, in March of this year; her parents Fizz and Ginny Younts; a brother-in-law Larry Young; and a niece, Tracy Young.

Her children would like to extend their most profound thanks and love to Dr. Thomas Gibson, Dr. David Spangler and the entire staff of Westminster Village for their loving and superb care of their mother in her final years. You are all family and heroes in our hearts.

A private family service was held on Dec. 22, 2021, with Pastor Jerry Ingalls officiating.

We encourage friends and family to direct all memorials to Westminster Village, 5802 W. Bethel Ave., Muncie, IN 47304. All memorials will go to their Christmas Employee Fund or activities department. This honors the dedicated staff who loved and gave excellent care to Shari and our family during the final years of her life and helps other residents of Westminster enjoy a wide variety of interesting activities, which Shari always enjoyed to the fullest. In turn, this honors Shari’s final wishes and would fill her heart with joy.

Condolences may be directed to the family at meeksmortuary.com.
