Lowell Fraze

Obituary

Lowell Arvin Fraze, 87, passed away on Dec. 23, 2020, from ongoing illnesses after a year’s stay at the Randolph County Nursing Home and a previous year at Summer’s Pointe Assisted Living, both in Winchester, followed by a short stay at Reid Hospital in Richmond.

He was born at home in Randolph County on Oct. 1, 1933, to Charold W. and Esta O. (Grow) Fraze.

Lowell lived in Randolph County while growing up and graduated from Saratoga High School in 1951. His mother introduced him to Anna Jean Robbins who worked with her at the Murphy’s Store, Winchester. That day he met the love of his life. They were married June 20, 1953, and were carted around the Winchester Courthouse in a wheel barrow by Anna’s 11 brothers. They were married 67 years.

In 1952, he went to International Business College and worked at North American Van Lines in Fort Wayne. He transferred to Ball State University in his second year and worked at Warner Gear, Guide Lamp and Portland Forge. His third year was interrupted by the draft, so he enlisted in the Air Force in 1954 at Sampson Air Force Base. Later, he and his buddy got themselves transferred to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. While in Dayton he worked at Davis Buick, Walker-Lincoln Mercury, Michael Motors and White Allen Chevrolet (that had the famous radio jingle) where he was top salesman.

He moved to Portland and started Fraze Motors, and then Fraze Jewelers & Antiques. He later moved to Tampa, Florida, and owned and operated Village Goldsmith, with Anna and son Richard. He belonged to Tri-State Gas Engine and Tractor Association and Jayland Antique Car Club, and did antique toy shows, all over for 40 years.

In 2013, they retired and moved from Tampa to Winchester.

Lowell is survived by his wife, Anna Jean (Robbins) Fraze; two sisters, Sheila (Fraze) West (husband: Jerry) and Sandy (Fraze) Bray (husband: Doug); four children, Connie (Fraze) Greenway (husband: Doug, deceased), Portland, Debbie (Fraze) Bottoms (husband: Jim), Valrico, Florida, Richard Lowell Fraze (wife: Cindy), Lutz, Florida, and Stephanie (Fraze) Grayson, Portland; 11 grandchildren, Shawndra Dailey Olabode, Jason Bottoms (deceased), Heath Dailey, Kaela (Dailey) Southworth, Roby Greenway, Dustin Fraze, Andrew Bottoms, Jeffrey Fraze, Lacey Fraze, Kaitlynn Grayson; and Chelsea Grayson; 15 great-grandchildren, Desmond Bowman, Alysse Bowman, J’Meel Johnson, Jadelynn Logan, Lilly Fraze, Kylie Greenway, Elijah Southworth, Jonah Southworth, Adrionna Dailey, Temperance Dailey (deceased), Isiah Dailey, Olivia Dailey, Elias Dailey, Logan Fraze and Steven Fraze; as well as many, many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Lowell will be at 2 p.m., on Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2020, at Freedom Life Church with Pastor Jeff officiating. Burial with military services will follow at Saratoga Cemetery. Friends and family may call from noon to 2 p.m. at the church. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
