Ronald Gillum
Obituary
Ronald L. Gillum, age 78, of Dunkirk, Indiana, died on Saturday, Dec. 26, 2020, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
He was born Jan. 31, 1942, in Portland, Indiana, to the late Clem and Ida (Hughes) Gillum. On Nov. 26, 1964, he married Janice F. Keith who survives him.
He is also survived by children Michael (Beth) Gillum of Coldwater, Ohio, Angela (Brian) Carmichael of Glen Allen, Virginia, and Scott Gillum of Pennville, Indiana; grandchildren Bailey (Jake) Sisk, Andrew Gillum, Jacob Gillum and Carly Carmichael; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by siblings Howard, Ralph and Reginald Gillum; and sister Joyce (Gillum) Hinshaw.
Ronnie was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He loved children, never knew a stranger and would give you the shirt off his back.
As a young boy, Ronnie enjoyed playing sports at the Portland Boy’s Club and working on the Dick Nixon’s farm. He had a strong work ethic and was a great provider for his family. After 44 years at the Dunkirk glass factories (Saint-Gobain, Ball and Kerr), he retired and continued other activities and hobbies, especially enjoying hunting, fishing and farming. Gifted with the ability to repair items, Ronnie was always working on something or adapting items to make them work better. Ronnie was a natural born teacher and coach and taught his children, grandchildren and others everything from life-skills to the fundamentals of sports. He loved watching the Indianapolis Colts, Indiana Pacers and his children and grandchildren’s games and activities.
Private family viewing only.
In remembrance of Ronnie Gillum’s life, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to the Jay County Boys and Girls Club.
Arrangements have been entrusted to MJS Mortuaries.
