June Wells, age 95, a former Portland resident, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2020, at Beech Grove Meadows in Indianapolis.
She was born in Jay County on Jan. 12, 1925, the sixth of seven children born to Fred and Mary Ellen (Chrisman) Councilman. She was married Jan. 6, 1950, to Warren E. Wells and he preceded her in death on Oct. 27, 1988.
June graduated from Portland High School in 1943. She was retired from CTS in Berne and was owner of North Port Drive-in and The Bee Hive Restaurant both in Portland.
Surviving are two sons J.C. Wells II (wife: Nancy) of Portland and Matthew Wells (wife: Lorenza Ponce) of New York, New York; one daughter, Whitney Hudson (husband: Brad) of Nashville, Tennessee; daughter-in-law Yvonne Wells of Liberty, Indiana; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Warren E. Wells; and son Wyatt Wells.
Services will be Monday, Feb. 10, 2020, at 3 p.m. in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Green Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 1 to 3 p.m.
