DEFIANCE, Ohio — The Indians are moving on in 10 events.
Kyra Clark and Audra Bubp each finished as the runner-up in one race and helped a relay take second place as well as the Fort Recovery High School girls swim team earned 10 district qualifying spots from the Division II swimming and diving sectional meet Saturday at Ayersville.
Clark had a time of 1 minute, 5.65 seconds, to finish as the runner-up in the 100 backstroke. She was also fifth in the 200 individual medley (2:28.76).
Audra Bubp nabbed second in the 100 breaststroke with her time of 1:15.75. Clark and Bubp joined Autumn Burk and Shelby Stammen to finish second in the 200 medley relay with their time of 1:59.67.
Ava Bubp (100 butterfly – fourth, 200 freestyle – fifth), Burk (100 breaststroke – eighth) and Stammen (100 breaststroke – sixth) also qualified for the district meet.
The 200 freestyle relay (Rachel Acheson, Burk and the Bubps) as well as the 400 freestyle relay (Burk, Clark and the Bubps) were both sixth and qualify for district, which will be Saturday at Bowling Green State University.

Second sinks Tribe
NEW MADISON, Ohio — The Fort Recovery girls basketball team led a state-ranked team for two quarters but fell behind in the second half and never recovered in a 51-43 loss to the Tri-Village Patriots on Saturday.
The Indians (15-5) led the Division IV No. 6 Patriots (21-1) by nine at the end of the first quarter and went into halftime ahead just 28-25. But the Patriots outscored the Tribe 26-15 in the second half, including a 15-8 margin in the third quarter, to get the victory.
Val Muhlenkamp led the Indians with 12 points, all of which came in the first half. Olivia Patch was second with 10 points, and Brooke Kahlig chipped in nine points.

FR loses big
LIMA, Ohio — The Division II No. 3 Shawnee Indians handed the Fort Recovery boys basketball team a 73-43 defeat Saturday.
Shawnee (19-0) jumped out to a 17-8 advantage in the first period and started to run away with the game in the second. It outscored Fort Recovery (14-4) 26-15 in the second to go into the break ahead by 20. Fort Recovery wasn’t able to slow down the host Indians much in the second half, as Shawnee had a 30-18 advantage over the final 16 minutes.
Derek Jutte was the only FRHS player to reach double figures as he finished with 11 points. Regan Martin followed with seven points and Clay Schmitz put in a half dozen.

Chiefs take 10th
GREENWOOD — East Jay Middle School’s wrestling team had one runner-up as it finished 10th Sunday in the Indiana High School Wrestling Coaches Association Middle School State Finals at Center Grove.
The Contenders Wrestling Academy won the team title with 270.5 points. Jay County totaled 88.5 points for 10th out of 161 teams and academies in attendance.
Cameron Clark, a 125-pounder, was the runner-up in his weight class. Bryce Wenk (175) was seventh, while Cody Rowles (102) and Ricky Nave (220) were both eighth.
Tony Wood (110) and AJ Myers (175) were in the top 12 and top 16, respectively.
Dakota Chowning finished eighth in the 110-pound weight class of the girls division.
