Tri Kappa Sorority offers its thanks
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
Feb. 16 through 22 is Tri Kappa Week in the state of Indiana.
Tri Kappa Sorority is a philanthropic organization existing only within the boundaries of the state of Indiana.
Founded in 1901, Tri Kappa gives approximately $1.5 million dollars every year to local and statewide projects in the areas of charity, culture and education.
There are 147 active and 103 associate chapters throughout Indiana with nearly 9,000 members. All chapters support Riley Children’s Hospital, The Mental Health Association of Indiana, ARC of Indiana, Indiana Special Olympics, Best Buddies of Indiana, the Hoosier Art Salon and many more worthwhile projects.
The Portland Beta Theta Chapter, founded in 1915, supports Arts Place, 4th of July Committee, Community and Family Services, Jay County Historical Society, Pregnancy Care Center, United Way of Jay County, Winterfest, Feed My Starving Children, Jay Community Center, Jay County Public Library Summer Reading Program, Jay County Summer Swim Team, the Jay County Law Enforcement Camp, Jay County Head Start, Reading is Fundamental, Jay County Special Olympics and Youth Service Bureau.
Annually, we give $3,000 in scholarships to Jay County High School seniors and Christmas gifts to each resident at Jay County Retirement Center and the county nursing and group homes.
The sorority would like to thank the public for supporting our annual fundraisers: Terri Lynn nuts/Abbot Caramels, the Vera Bradley/Thirty-one Bingo (this year’s is April 20th at Jay County High School) and the slushie and caramel apple sales at the Jay County Fair. Thanks also to those who buy advertisements that we announce at the fair.
Special thanks to Jay County Fair Board for allowing us to sell tickets, take tickets and usher at various grandstand events and to the associate and inactive members who help during fair week.
Thank you all for supporting Tri Kappa so that we can support Jay County.
