FORT?RECOVERY?— Kelsey Fiely and Olivia Schwieterman hit consecutive 3-pointers leading to a timeout from Wildcat coach Nann Stechshulte. Those hoops were part of a 17-point run that lifted the Indians to a 48-33 victory over Minster in the 2012 sectional championship game at The Palace in Coldwater.
That was the last time they beat Minster. Until Thursday.
Fort Recovery High School’s girls basketball team took control early and never let go as it knocked off the Wildcats 43-36.
The Tribe (7-2, 2-1 Midwest Athletic Conference), which has now won five in a row, built a 14-7 lead in the opening quarter. It pushed the advantage to nine points at halftime and stayed in control to hand Minster its first league loss.
Val Muhlenkamp sparked the strong start as she scored seven of her team-high 11 points for Fort Recovery in the opening quarter. Alli Vaughn followed with 10 points, and Kierra Wendel and Whitley Rammel each added seven.
Junior guard Ivy Wolf scored 14 points to lead the Wildcats (9-2, 2-1 MAC). Averi Wolf and Janae Hoying each had seven points.
