A pair of former Indians separated by nearly five decades will be inducted to the Fort Recovery High School Athletic Hall of Fame this year.
Dale Griesinger, class of 1949, and Matt Roessner, class of 1998, will be inducted during a ceremony between the junior varsity and varsity boys basketball games Jan. 18 at Fort Site Fieldhouse.
Griesinger was a four-year varsity baseball player and was part of the 1949 squad that was undefeated until falling in the regional championship game. He also played two years of varsity basketball and continued his hoops career at Capital University.
Roessner was a standout runner for the Indians, leading the cross country team to a 162-0 record and the state championship in 1996. (He finished seventh in the state individually that year and was eighth in 1997.) He still holds the school record for a 5K race at 16 minutes, 14 seconds.
He also placed seventh in the state in the 800-meter run in track in 1998, and was part of 4x800 relay teams that placed fifth in the state in 1997 and ninth in 1998. He still holds school records in both events.
