Six straight wins have impressed the voters.
Fort Recovery High School’s girls basketball team, which hasn’t lost since its visit to Jay County in early December, came in at No. 10 in Division IV in the first Ohio Associated Press poll of the season released this week.
The Indians (8-2), whose only other loss is to Division III No. 5 Versailles, picked up 32 poll points to finish two behind ninth-ranked Cortland Maplewood and one ahead of Berlin Center Western Reserve, which was 11th in the voting.
The Midwest Athletic Conference had three teams in the Division IV top 10, with Minster, which Fort Recovery defeated last week, at No. 2 and Marion Local at No. 4. Undefeated Fort Loramie (10-0) is ranked No. 1 in Division IV, with Portsmouth Notre Dame at No. 3 and Toledo Christian tied with Marion Local at No. 4.
Chiefs drop two
MONROE — The East Jay Middle School boys basketball teams both lost to Adams Central on Wednesday, with the eighth graders slipping to 2-4 with a 31-20 loss. The seventh grade team fell 40-22 to the Jets.
Abraham Dirksen scored eight points to lead the eighth grade Chiefs, who are 1-2 in the Allen County Athletic Conference. Wesley Bihn followed with four points.
Eli Dirksen reached double figures with 10 points for the EJMS seventh graders (1-6, 0-3 ACAC). Levi Muhlenkamp chipped in six points.
Will big off bench
Whitney Will, a 2017 Fort Recovery High School graduate, was key in coming off the bench for the NAIA No. 13 University of St. Francis women’s basketball team Saturday in its 68-53 win over No. 22 Huntington.
Will played 17 minutes in her reserve role, going 2-for-4 from the field and hitting all of her three free-throw attempts for seven points. She also added a block, a steal and a rebound.
Will had five points, three rebounds and two steals for the Cougars (12-4) on Wednesday in their 68-56 loss to ninth-ranked Taylor.
Ault assisting
Jay County High School graduate Hanna Ault has led the Anderson University women’s basketball team in assists in each of its last two games.
Ault, JCHS class of 2018, dished out three assists to go along with four points, two rebounds and a block Saturday in a 54-42 win over Earlham. She had four assists, five points, three rebounds and a block Wednesday as the Ravens (5-7) fell 65-58 to Manchester.
