KOKOMO — Lizzie Dollar stood atop the podium at the regional meet.
She was just one step lower Friday.
Dollar won her first two matches before finishing as the runner-up at 98 pounds in the Indiana High School Girls Wrestling State Finals.
Lita Chowning (113) finished in eighth place.
Dollar pinned Terre Haute North’s Virginia Graf with just five seconds left in their first-round match. She then knocked off Adriana Sanchez of Purdue Polytechnic 12-8 in the state semifinal.
The sophomore fell in the championship match by a 19-0 score to Destiny Garris of Evansville Central.
Chowning dropped each of her three matches Friday. She earned her third straight top-eight finish in the IHSGW State Finals.
Patriots end skid
BLUFFTON — The Jay County boys basketball team put an end to its losing streak Saturday with a 36-34 victory over Heritage in the consolation round of the Allen County Athletic Conference Tournament.
Jay County (3-11), which lost 10 in a row following its victory Nov. 30 over Richmond, trailed by one at halftime. It outscored Heritage 9-3 in the third quarter to pull ahead and then held on for the two-point win.
Senior Gavin Lambert powered JCHS to the victory with 14 points, four of which came in the final period.
Fellow senior Noah Arbuckle added seven points, and Brayden Sprunger and Ethan Dirksen each scored six.
Luke Saylor put in a game-high 16 points for Heritage.
Jay girls win
BLUFFTON — Jay County’s girls basketball team knocked off Heritage for the second time this season Saturday by a 50-41 score in the consolation round of the Allen County Athletic Conference Tournament.
Jay County dominated the first quarter only to trail by one at halftime after scoring just four points in the second. But it controlled the second half to improve to 11-7.
Freshman Renna Schwieterman’s 24 points and five rebounds led JCHS, which will travel to Norwell on Tuesday night. Pacie Denney and Madison Dirksen each added six points.
Abby Sheehan scored 15 points to lead Heritage.
