NextEra Energy, parent company of Bluff Point Wind Energy Center, has been named to Fortune’s 2020 list of the “World’s Most Admired Companies.”

The Florida-based utility giant was ranked No. 1 in the electric and gas utilities industry for the 13th time in 14 years.

NextEra is the parent of Florida Power & Light Company, Gulf Power Company and NextEra Energy Resources, LLC,.

It also recognized among the top 10 companies worldwide, across all industries, for social responsibility and use of corporate assets.

"We are honored to be recognized again on Fortune's prestigious list as the leader within our industry, as well as ranked among the top 10 companies worldwide, across all industries, for social responsibility," Jim Robo, NextEra Energy chairman and chief executive officer, said in a prepared statement.

In its industry, NextEra Energy ranked No. 1 for all nine rated attributes, including innovation, people management, use of corporate assets, social responsibility, quality of management, financial soundness, long-term investment value, quality of products/services and global competitiveness.

The company is the world's largest generator of renewable energy from the wind and sun, with more wind capacity in its portfolio than all but seven countries in the world. NextEra Energy was America's No. 1 capital investor in energy infrastructure and the fifth largest capital investor across all sectors in 2018. It is planning to make between $50 billion and $55 billion in new infrastructure investments through 2022.

Fortune's annual list is based on ratings from executives, directors and analysts.



Protein power

Tyson Foods Inc., parent of Tyson Mexican Original of Portland, this week announced the creation of the Coalition for Global Protein, an initiative to advance the future of sustainable protein.

Tyson said it is convening leaders from the global protein industry, which includes all forms of protein, as well as academia, non-governmental organizations and financial institutions in an effort to find ways to sustainably feed the world’s growing population.

“As one of the world’s largest food companies, we want to help ensure the responsible production of affordable, nutritious food for generations to come,” Noel White, chief executive officer of Tyson Foods, said in a prepared statement.



Former CEO dies

David D. Glass, a former chief executive officer of Walmart, died Jan. 9. He was 84.

Glass, who followed Sam Walton in the leadership role led Walmart through one of its greatest periods of expansion from 1988 to 2000.

He also owned the Kansas City Royals when they won the 2015 World Series.

Ketchup partners

Red Gold has announced a partnership with the Folds of Honor Foundation that will help provide scholarships for families of American fallen or disabled troops.

The tomato processing company, which has a facility in Geneva, will unveil a new look on its premium ketchup label featuring the Folds of Honor logo.

Red Gold will contribute proceeds from ketchup sales to the Folds of Honor foundation, and looks forward to being represented in every household in America,” Tim Ingle, senior vice president at Red Gold, said.

Folds of Honor is a 501(C)(3) nonprofit organization, rated a four-star charity by Charity Navigator and platinum on GuideStar, that provides educational scholarships to the families of military men and women who have fallen or been disabled while on active duty in the United States armed forces.

Its educational scholarships support private educational tuition and tutoring for children in grades K-12, as well as higher education tuition assistance for spouses and dependents.

Founded in 2007 it has awarded approximately 24,500 scholarships in all 50 states and some US territories, including over 4,500 in 2019 alone.



New hire

Zac Smith has been named the new director of facilities management at Swiss Village retirement community in Berne.

An Adams Central graduate, he has received training from Vincennes University in industrial maintenance and robotics. He begins his new role on Monday.



Join board

Ardagh Group has announced that its board has nominated Abigail Blunt, Yves Elsen and Oliver Graham for election as directors of Ardagh at its next annual general meeting in April.

Ardagh is the parent of glass container manufacturing plants in Dunkirk and Winchester.

Abigail Blunt currently serves as global head of government affairs and adviser to the board of The Kraft Heinz Company.Yves Elsen is chief executive officer and managing partner of HITEC Luxembourg S.A., a Luxembourg-based industrial and technology company. Oliver Graham is chief executive officer of Ardagh's global metal beverage business.



Ranked

First Merchants Bank has earned a spot as No. 5 on Forbes list of America’s Best Banks in 2020.

First Financial Bank was in the No. 32 spot on the Forbes list.



Odor woes

Equipment failures in December at the Dannon Yogurt plant in Minster, Ohio, led to odor problems that had neighbors complaining to village officials.

The Daily Standard reported that two incidents occurred over the holidays. One was a problem with the company’s wastewater treatment plant. The second was a broken fan over an area where Dannon hauls out sludge.

Neighbors have protested to village officials, saying they want to know what could be done to prevent a recurrence of the offensive smell.



Profits rise

Comcast Corp.’s net profit rose 26% in the fourth quarter, The Wall Street Journal reported this week.

The improvement was attributed to internet subscriber growth at the same time Comcast is losing pay-TV customers.

The company reported a profit of about $3.16 billion in the fourth quarter, or 68 cents a share. That is up from $2.51 billion, or 55 cents a share, in the same period last year.

Revenue rose 2% to $28.4 billion, and Comcast said it would increase its dividend by 10% to 92 cents a share this year. It is the second year in a row the company raised its dividend by 10%, The Journal said.

Comcast added 442,000 high-speed internet customers in the quarter, and lost 149,000 pay-TV customers.



Declare dividend

American Electric Power Co., parent of Indiana Michigan Power this week declared a regular quarterly cash dividend of 70 cents a share on the company's common stock.

The dividend is payable March 10 to shareholders of record as of Feb. 10.

It is the Columbus, Ohio-based company’s 439th consecutive quarterly common stock cash dividend. AEP has paid a cash dividend on its common stock every quarter since July 1910.



Falling short

CenturyLink and Frontier Communications have apparently failed to meet broadband-deployment requirements in numerous states where they are receiving government funding to expand their networks in rural areas, the website Ars Technica reported this week.

CenturyLink notified the Federal Communications Commission that it "may not have reached the deployment milestone" in 23 states and that it hit the latest deadline in only 10 states, the website said. Indiana was one of the states where it failed to meet the deadline.

Under FCC rules, the companies were required to bring Internet access to 80 percent of funded locations by the end of 2019 and must hit 100 percent by the end of 2020.



Big fine

The Andersons, which has a grain terminal in rural Dunkirk, has been fined nearly $292,000 by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration over alleged safety violations that led to the deaths of two employees last year, The Associated Press reported.

The two were suffocated after becoming trapped in a grain storage tank.

The Andersons is based in Maumee, Ohio.



Sewing pouches

Touched by the plight of wildlife in the face of raging fires in Australia, a group of employees at Celina Tent has put their sewing skills together to make pouches for baby kangaroos left homeless by the fires.

The goal is to maake at least 500 pouches which will be sent to the Ohio hub of the American Rescue Crafters guild.

The public is invited to help with the effort today from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Celina Church of the Nazarene, 900 Fairground Road, Celina. Any leftover supplies will be used by the Celina animal shelter.
