To the editor:
During the past four months, our lives have changed drastically in one way or another.
It has not been the same for everyone, nor will it stay the same for everyone.
This time in our lives we have had the privilege to slow down and see the natural beauty around us. We have seen people stepping up to the plate in a way they never have before. We have seen people who are struggling (for many different reasons) continue to struggle like they never knew they would have to.
Each and every one of us need to take care of ourselves physically, mentally and emotionally in order to help take care of our family, friends, co-workers and even strangers. When we do this, we are better to ourselves, our community and our world.
Here are some ideas that may enhance our physical, mental and emotional health:
•Get the basics right: eat well, exercise and go to bed on time
•If you can’t change it, change the way you think about it
•Shift your mood by doing something you really enjoy
•Go for a walk to clear your head when you feel overwhelmed
•Don’t be so hard on yourself. It’s okay not to be okay
•Get back in touch with a supportive friend and have a chat
•Go out and dance in the rain and jump into a mud puddle. This will put a smile on your face and the face of people watching from afar
•Remember that you are not alone. We all struggle at times
•Make a list of three things that you can feel hopeful about
Be wise. Stay kind. Keep calm.
