Thomas W. Joyner, 82, of Geneva, Indiana, passed away at 5:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 12, 2020, at his home in Geneva, Indiana.
He was born on Thursday, Aug. 26, 1937, in Johnston County, North Carolina. He was the son of the late James “JJ” Joyner and the late Sadie (Godwin) Joyner. He was the husband of Virginia (Scott) Joyner.
Thomas served his country in the U.S. Army at Fort Jackson between 1955 and 1958. He was a former member of the Valeene Christian Church and the High St. Methodist Church in Geneva. After serving in the military, Thomas was a truck driver for many years.
Thomas will be sadly missed by his wife Virginia L. Joyner, Geneva, Indiana; daughter Sadie (Tim) Joyner, Lebanon, Indiana; son James (Cathy) Joyner, North Carolina, stepson Chris (Ginger) Englehardt, Berne, Indiana; stepdaughter Kathy (Steve) Conway, Pickerington, Ohio; stepdaughter Janet (Keith) Shauver, Portland, Indiana; stepson Dean (Nancy) Englehardt, Pennville, Indiana; stepdaughter Karen (Keith) Harville, Hardinsburg, Indiana; stepdaughter Nancy Meier, Geneva, Indiana; brother Harris Joyner, California; grandchildren David, Alyssa (Rico), Israel, Brian, Eric and Haley; 11 step-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father James “JJ” Joyner; mother Sadie Joyner; stepchildren Dale and Scott Englehardt; and several brothers and sisters.
Family and friends may gather to share and remember at Downing & Glancy Funeral Home, 100 N. Washington St., Geneva, on Friday, July 17, 2020, from noon to 2:30 p.m.
A service to celebrate his life will be at Downing – Glancy Funeral Home at 3 p.m. on Friday, July 17, 2020, with Pastor Joe Lampton officiating. Interment will follow in the Gravel Hill Cemetery in Bryant.
Arrangements are being handled by Downing & Glancy Funeral Home in Geneva.
