An effort to restore a former schoolhouse in northern Randolph County has received state support.
The Friends of Ward Township No. 5 Randolph County was awarded a $7,350 Historic Renovation Grant from the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs this week. It was one of a dozen such grants statewide.
“Join me in congratulating these 12 business owners for receiving funds from the Historical Renovation Grant Program,” said Indiana Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch in announcing the grants. “Preservation efforts like this ensure a future for our many vacant, neglected or historic properties that might otherwise be lost.”
Renovation efforts have been ongoing since 2015 for the building located at Randolph County roads 700 North and 100 East. The grant announced this week is to be used to recreate the missing bell tower as it would have been when the facility was built in 1891.
Camps canceled
Youth Service Bureau has canceled its Patriot Prep (preschool) summer camps for 3- through 5-year-olds for this year.
Instead of holding an in-person camp, learning binders will be provided free. The binders, being sponsored by United Way of Jay County, are designed to help parents teach preschoolers skills that they will need before entering kindergarten.
