Geraldine M. (Jerry) Shauver Strock, a former Jay County resident, passed peacefully to God’s heaven on May 9, 2020, at Golden Years Homestead in Fort Wayne.
She was born Jan. 22, 1920, in Jay County, the daughter of Ezra and Hazel Kimble Shauver. She attended Madison Township High School.
She was married to Merle R. Strock on Aug. 31, 1940, and he died Sept. 27, 1997.
Beginning at age 15, she worked in Portland as a cook at various restaurants and at Jay Garment Company. She was also a nursing assistant at Murphy Medical Center, Warsaw, Indiana. She was an accomplished seamstress and made quilts and afghans for her family. Her cookie jar was always full of goodies for her grandchildren.
In 2018, she moved to Fort Wayne to Golden Years Homestead where she celebrated her 100th birthday Jan. 22, 2020.
In addition to her daughters, Phyllis Franklin, Sharon (Joseph) Brewer and Barbara Swaim, she is survived by a brother, Howard Paul Shauver; and sisters Ramona J. Shauver Lee and Gloria A. Shauver Pfeiffer of Salamonia. She was the grandmother of eight, great-grandmother of 19, and great-great-grandmother of eight.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 14, from 1 to 1:30 p.m. at Salamonia Church of Christ. An abbreviated service will follow at 1:30 p.m. with graveside services to follow at Salamonia Cemetery at 2 p.m.
