A Blackford County man died after he lost control of his vehicle and it crashed into Oval Run on Tuesday west of Pennville.
Tyson M. Nottingham, 46, rural Hartford City, was pronounced dead at the scene on the north side of county road 350 North about a half-mile east of the Jay/Blackford county line.
His body was found trapped in his 2015 Ford Expedition in Oval Run on the north side of the road.
According to a Jay County Sheriff’s Office report, Nottingham was westbound on county road 350 North between county road 1100 West and the Jay/Blackford county line when his vehicle went off the north side of the road. It went into the ditch on the north side of the road and traveled 212 feet before falling into the steeper Oval Run with “great impact,” according to the report. The vehicle came to a stop on its passenger side just north of the bridge over the waterway.
Oval Run flows northeast and connects with the Salamonie River west of Pennville.
There were no passengers in the vehicle and no other vehicles were involved in the accident.
The sheriff’s office did not conclude why the vehicle left the roadway.
Damage to the Ford was estimated between $10,000 and $25,000.
