Ralph Huey

Ralph James Huey, age 85, a resident of Portland passed away Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at Golden Living Center in Muncie, Indiana.  He worked at Fort Recovery Industries, Dunbar Furniture and was an assistant for the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home for several years. 

He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Portland and a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was an evangelist and travelled as a missionary to Haiti and Jamaica. He pastored at several area churches including Petroleum United Methodist Church and Bearcreek Farms Chapel.

Ralph James Huey was born January 9, 1935 in Portland, Indiana the son of Ralph and Thelma (Swane) Huey.  He was married in 1953 to Betty Wheeler, and she passed away in 1994.  He then married Shirley McNelly in 1995, and she passed away in 2018.

Survivors Include:

One daughter — Pamela Straley (husband: David), Geneva, Indiana

One son — Richard Huey (wife: Connie Jo), Charlotte, North Carolina

Two grandchildren— Daniel Straley, Portland, Indiana and Aaron Huey, Colorado Springs, Colorado

One sister — Mona Lou Brumm, Syracuse, Indiana

One step son and three step daughters

Visitation will be held from 11:00am-2:00pm on Saturday, June 20, 2020 at the Williamson-Spencer and Penrod Funeral home in Portland. Private funeral services for the family will follow at 2 p.m. with Pastor Jason Rice officiating. Burial will follow in the Center Cemetery, west of Portland.

Memorials may be directed to the Trinity United Methodist Church in Portland.
