To the editor:
Have you and your children been creative during the stay-at-home order? Did you know the Jay County Fair and the Jay County Extension Homemakers sponsor has a contest in the Women’s Building at the fair every year?
I’d like to invite anyone — adults and children both — to bring some of your projects to exhibit at the fair this year. It’s another opportunity, in addition to The Commercial Review, to share what you’ve been doing. It’s a lot of fun to see everyone’s projects from art, photography, and sewing to cooking and gardening, just to name a few. There is even a Lego category. The competition for first, second, third, and Best of Show is fun and friendly. Did you know there is even a small cash prize and ribbon, and no entry fees?
For those who are familiar with the Women’s Building displays, you’ll find some changes this year to make entering even easier.
For example, you can now bring a photo of your garden vegetables instead of bringing in the actual vegetable. There has been a professional wedding photography category and a professional fancy foods category added. A wood sign painting category, craft beer, backyard BBQ and wine-making contest were added. The cake entries can now be made from a mix instead of scratch. You can pick up a rules and exhibit category booklet at Strohl’s, Richard’s Restaurant and the Jay County Extension Office.
So, if you and your children have some crafty projects that you will have finished, or perhaps you’ve learned a new recipe, bring them in and let’s all have a good time enjoying each other’s talents this year at the Jay County Fair, July 13-18.
I am not on the fair board or a member of the Jay county Extension Homemakers. However, I do like to bring a few projects of my own each year and I’d love to have some more competition.
Not to mention, that it is really enjoyable just to go into the air conditioned Women’s Building and leisurely browse through all the exhibits that are on display.
See you at the fair.
