The Portland Foundation Women’s Giving Circle grant applications are now being accepted.
The Women’s Giving Circle will award grants from $200 to $1,000 which focus on enhancing the capacity of Jay County’s not-for-profit organizations to support programming that addresses needs for children affected by substance abuse. The Circle wishes to fund innovative endeavors to educate and assist Jay County residents.
Applications are available on the foundation’s website – www.portlandfoundation.org. Applications are due July 17 by 5 pm. For further information contact Jessica Cook at (260) 726-4260 or [email protected].
The Women’s Giving Circle serves in an advisory capacity to the foundation board of trustees on distributions from the Women’s Endowment Fund and the Women’s Giving Circle Fund.
The mission of the Circle is to build a community of women philanthropists through the pooling of knowledge and resources for the purpose of providing grants to Jay County organizations and initiatives that address mutually-agreeable issues.
Since 2005, it has awarded grants totaling $27,218.
Canceled
Minnetrista has chosen to cancel the America’s Hometown Band concert, a Fourth of July event, this year. In addition, the Muncie gathering place will not be hosting food trucks and in line with its reopening plan, the main building exhibits will not be open for the public that evening.

The Jay County Soil and Water Conservation District is meeting on Wednesday, June 24, 6 p.m. in the equipment shop at the Barry Miller residence, 705E 300N, Portland.

The Bryant High School Alumni Association will not be celebrating a reunion this yaer due to COVID-19. The date for next year’s reunion is May 15, 2021.
On the list
Ivy Tech Community College is pleased to announce the spring 2020 Dean’s List for the Fort Wayne Campus and the Warsaw Site. On the list are Ashley Bice and Michael McKinley, both of Portland.
The Dean’s List gives recognition to students who are degree-seeking, achieve a minimum 3.50 grade point average in non-academic skills advancement courses with no Ds or Fs, earn six or more Ivy Tech credits during the semester and have earned at least 12 non-academic skills advancement credits during their course of study.
Field day
The Indiana State Department of Agriculture and the Jay and Blackford Soil and Water Conservation Districts will hold a pollinator/invasive species field day at the Stafford farm north of Dunkirk on June 25.
The event, which is scheduled to start at 2 p.m., will feature remarks by local landowner and conservationist Rebecca Stafford, private lands biologist Kent Hanauer from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, and Ricardo Ortiz-Rios, district conservationist for the US. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service.
The Stafford farm is located at 119 S. Indiana 167, which is 3.1 miles north of Dunkirk.
Those attending should wear appropriate walking shoes and dress according to the weather. Light refreshments will be provided.
