Indiana Glass event set in July

Taking Note

The 65th anniversary Indiana Glass Picnic will be held July 12 at Frank W. Merry Park, 18505 N. 500 East, Dunkirk, in rural Delaware County.

Past employees of Indiana Glass Co. will be honored.

The event, which is open to the public, begins at 7 a.m.

There will be a trophy competition shoot at 7:30 a.m, a fishing contest at 8 a.m. and a disc golf tournament at 9 a.m.

Retirees of Indiana Glass will be honored at noon during a flag ceremony.

A cornhole tournament is set for 2 p.m., and the Steal Justice Band will perform at the same time.

At 5 p.m. it will be time for Steve Norman’s karaoke.

All day long there will be face painting, a bake sale, crafters, vendors and refreshments.

Dog show

The Bulldogs will return to Hein Amphitheatre at VanTrees Park in Fort Recovery for a performance at 7 p.m. on Sunday, June 28.

They’ll be performing music by Buddy Holly, the Beach Boys, the Righteous Brothers and more.

The summer series concert is free to the public.



Field day

The Indiana State Department of Agriculture and the Jay and Blackford Soil and Water Conservation Districts will hold a pollinator/invasive species field day at the Stafford farm north of Dunkirk on June 25.

The event, which is scheduled to start at 2 p.m., will feature remarks by local landowner and conservationist Rebecca Stafford, private lands biologist Kent Hanauer from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, and Ricardo Ortiz-Rios, district conservationist for the U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service.

The Stafford farm is located at 1119 S. Indiana 167, which is 3.1 miles north of Dunkirk.

Those attending should wear appropriate walking shoes and dress according to the weather.

Light refreshments will be provided.



Grant time

The Portland Foundation Women’s Giving Circle grant applications are now being accepted.

The Women’s Giving Circle will award grants from $200 to $1,000 which focus on enhancing the capacity of Jay County’s not-for-profit organizations to support programming that addresses needs for children affected by substance abuse.

The Circle wishes to fund innovative endeavors to educate and assist Jay County residents.

Applications are available on the foundation’s website – www.portlandfoundation.org.

Applications are due July 17 by 5 pm.
