Roger and Luetta J. (Smith) Bowen, rural Portland, are celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary today.
They were wed at First Methodist Church (now Asbury United Methodist Church), Portland, in 1950.
Both are 1946 graduates of Portland High School. Luetta also graduated from Ball State University with bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Roger is a retired farmer and commercial pilot. He is a former long-time member of the Jay County Council. Luetta is a retired kindergarten and first grade teacher for the Jay School Corporation.
They are the parents of six children: Pamela (Bowen) Burks, Fishers; Kathy (Bowen) Stolz, Franklin; Jeffrey Bowen, Portland; Douglas Bowen, Greeley, Colorado; Mark Bowen, Falls Church, Virginia; and Todd Bowen, Evanston, Illinois. They have six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The couple will celebrate with their family at a later date.
