Jay County High School’s academic teams earned three first-place finishes and one third place at the Eastern Indiana Academic League’s Invitational at Cowan High School Monday.
Nineteen schools from east central Indiana took part in the event. Jay County earned three first place finish plaques and one 3rd place ribbon.
The English team — Mary Hartman, Liz Stewart and Ava Stockton, —earned one of the first place plaques.
The fine arts team — Ethan Andreshak, Mary Hartman, Liz Stewart and Sydnie Zorn — also received a first place plaque.
The third first place plaque went to the Interdisciplinary team — Alex Ardizzone, Isaac Braun, Ava Stockton and Sydnie Zorn.
Competing for the science team — Ethan Andreshak, Isaac Braun, Juste Griskonyte and Lucas Lyon — earned 3rd place ribbons.
The social studies team — Alex Ardizzone and Juste Griskonyte — finished in seventh place.
The math team — Isaac Braun, Jackson Lyons, and Chema Pradigta — finished in fourteenth place.
The next event for the academic teams will be the 5-way meet at Centerville High School April 14.
Roundup
Kindergarten roundup will begin at the end of this month.
The annual pre-registration for prospective kindergarten students for next school year will begin March 31 at Bloomfield Elementary School.
Redkey and Westlawn elementary schools will have kindergarten roundup April 1, with East Elementary School to follow April 2.
Doors will open at 8:45 a.m. on all three days.
Students must be at least 5 years old on or before Aug. 1 in order to be eligible to attend kindergarten next fall. For more information, call (260) 726-9341.
Village event
Joni Cincotta and Lisa Rich will be providing the entertainment at Swiss Village’s Saturday Night at the Village this week.
The free entertainment is set for 7 to 8 p.m. in the Swiss Village auditorium in Berne.
Nature lunch
Ouabache State Park, Bluffton, will kick off a new season of its Nature Lovers Lunch and Learn series at noon on March 12. The carry-in luncheon is sponsored by Friends of Ouabache and Corner Depot and takes place in the Lodge Recreation Building.
The nature program is free with paid gate admission to the state park. The March program will be “Value of a Volunteer.”
Main dish, drinks and table service will be provided. Those attending should bring a prepared dish to share and a freewill offering.
