Harry J. McLaughlin, age 87, of Portland passed away Thursday morning, March 5, 2020, at his residence.
He was born in Portland on April 9, 1932, the son of Herschel and Margaret (Strock) McLaughlin. He was married on Dec. 4, 1970, to Ruth A. Johnson, who survives.
He graduated from Portland High School in 1951 and served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired in 1997 after 32 years with Ohio Valley Gas. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the 8 o’clock coffee club at Arby’s.
Surviving are his wife, Ruth; one son, Michael McLaughlin (wife: Erika) of Chicago; one daughter, Debra McLaughlin of Anderson; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Susan Dick.
Funeral services will be Monday, March 9, 2020, at 10:30 a.m. in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with Pastors Martin Bornhoft and Darrell Borders presiding. Burial will follow in the Green Park Cemetery with military rites by American Legion #211. Visitation will be Sunday from noon to 3 p.m.
