Monday she garnered another statewide honor.
Val Muhlenkamp, a Fort Recovery High School senior, was named to the Division IV All-Ohio third team Monday by the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association.
Muhlenkamp, who will play for the Findlay Oilers next season, averaged an even 10 points per game and finished eighth in the Midwest Athletic Conference with 132 rebounds (six per game).
The 6-foot forward helped the Indians to an 8-1 record in the MAC for a share of the conference title, the team’s first since 1991. Muhlenkamp and the Tribe won the squad’s fifth consecutive sectional title before bowing out of the postseason tournament in the district semifinal.
Fort Recovery finished the season 18-6.
Dirksen gets nod
The Allen County Athletic Conference named its all-conference teams Monday, and one Patriot basketball player got the nod.
Ethan Dirksen, a Jay County High School sophomore, was named second team All-ACAC as the Patriots’ only honoree for this season.
The 6-foot forward led the Patriots with 8.8 points per game, and his 4.5 rebounds per game were second only to senior Noah Arbuckle.
Jay County finished the year 7-16 (3-3), the team’s first losing season since 2000-01.
Tanner Cooley and Hayden Nern of ACAC champion Bluffton, Joe Reidy and Mitch Mendenhall of Woolan, Lucas Van De Weg of Adams Central and James Arnold of South Adams were selected All-ACAC first team.
