Rehearsals are in full swing and tickets are now on sale for Jay County Civic Theatre’s production of “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.”
Performances of the popular Broadway musical comedy are set for 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 16, Friday, April 17, and Saturday, April 18, as well as 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 19, at Arts Place, 131 E. Walnut St., Portland.
The show is directed by Joey Bailey and choreographed by Shea Bailey, both of Portland.
Cast members include Jason McGraw, Jennifer McGraw, Matt Lingo, Anne Casey, Ray Cooney, Lee Habegger, Ian Nesbitt, C.J. Yoder and Drew Simmons of Portland, Bev Wolford of Bryant, McKenna Vore of Pennville, Reid Knuth of Fort Recovery, Lee Osteen of Anderson and Ian Ruth of Fort Wayne.
Advance tickets are $8 for students and children and $10 for adults and are available at Arts Place as well as online at artsland.org.
After April 16, ticket prices will be $10 for students and $12 for adults.

Egg hunt
Dunkirk’s Easter Egg Hunt will be Saturday, April 4, at 2 p.m. at Dunkirk City Park, rain or shine.
The event is sponsored by WPGW, the Jay County Chamber of Commerce, the City of Dunkirk and volunteers from Sigma Phi Gamma and Delta Theta Tau sororities.

Saturday Night at the Village at Swiss Village Retirement Community has been canceled for Saturday, March 14, and the rest of March.
Events are expected to resume on Saturday, April 11.
Butterfly gardening
Butterfly lovers and gardeners are invited to Limberlost State Historic Site to learn from an expert what to plant in gardens to attract caterpillars and butterflies.
Jody Heaston, Indiana State Parks Volunteer and Indiana Master Naturalist Coordinator for Indiana State Parks, will give a presentation on how to attract caterpillars and butterflies to your yard using native plants.
The event is set for 2 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 15, at the Limberlost Visitors Center in Geneva.
The prices is $3 for adult members of the Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites, $2 for youth members, $4 for adult non-members and $3 for youth non-members.
Prevention program
Adams Memorial Hospital will be offering a diabetes prevention program starting April 30. The program is specifically designed for people that have pre-diabetes or for those that believe they are at risk for diabetes or have a high A1C (5.7-6.4%).
The class series consists of multiple one-hour sessions starting on Thursday, April 30, at the Adams Memorial Hospital Strickler Cancer Institute in the Strickler Library.
The Strickler Cancer Institute is the building adjacent to Adams Memorial Hospital, Decatur. Two session times are being offered, a day session from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or an evening session from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. To register or get more information, contact Lisa McAfee, RN, at (260) 724-2145, extension 11107. Participants must be 18 years old or older.
