Vivienne Kunkler was already part of a historic season as an inaugural member of the Pilot swim team.
She added another first to her resume Friday.
Kunkler, a 2019 Jay County High School graduate, became the first All-American in the history of the Bethel University women’s swim team as she placed sixth in the 100-yard breaststroke in the NAIA Swimming and Diving National Championships at Allen Jones Aquatic Center at University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tennessee.
The freshman had a time of 1 minute, 5.68 seconds, in the finals to earn her All-American spot. In the prelims, she set a school record by touching the wall in 1:05.6, which gained the No. 5 seed in the event.
Individually, Kunkler was also 13th in the 200 breaststroke with her school-record time of 2:26.34.
She also competed in four relays with Sarah Hyska, Abigail Barnes and Elisabeth Wolfe. Kunkler handled the breaststroke leg of the 200 medley relay that was ninth in 1:49.93, which was a new program record. Kunkler had the same stroke in the 400 medley relay that was 12th in a school-record time of 4:06.77.
The 200 freestyle relay also set a record by placing 11th in 1:40.99, and the 400 freestyle relay was 16th with its record swim of 3:37.27.
Cade Wendel
Fort Recovery - 2018
Did not factor into the decision pitching for the Lake Erie Community College baseball team Monday in a 6-5 loss to Lenoir-Rhyne.
Wendel gave up five earned runs on six hits in five innings. He struck out five and walked two, exiting the game with the Storm (3-4-1) trailing 5-3. The Storm tied the game in the top of the sixth inning to prevent Wendel from getting the loss, but Lenoir-Rhyne scored the eventual game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth.
Max Moser
Jay County - 2018
Recorded his first hit of the season for the Huntington University baseball team Monday in a 14-13 win over the Marian Knights.
Moser entered the game as a pinch hitter, and hit an RBI single. He later came around to score for the Foresters (5-7, 3-0 Crossroads League).
It was Moser’s first hit, RBI and run in nine at bats this season.
