In an effort to contain the spread of coronavirus, many local events have been suspended, postponed or canceled. Some government offices and businesses have closed. Our updated list is here.
SCHOOLS
Fort Recovery Local Schools — Will close beginning Tuesday through at least April 3.
Jay School Corporation — Closed through April 10. Modified e-learning will be implemented. “Grab and go” school lunches will be available. After-school activities, field trips and extracurriculars have also been suspended for 30 days.
GOVERNMENT
Bureau of Motor Vehicles Portland Branch — Closed until further notice.
Dunkirk City Building — Closed to the public.
Fort Recovery Village Hall — Closed to the public until further notice.
Jay County Board of Zoning Appeals — March 19 meeting — canceled
Jay County Solid Waste Management District board meeting — March 23 — canceled
Portland City Hall — Closed to the public until further notice. Visitors will be by appointment only.
Redkey Town Hall — Closed to the public through April 10.

CHURCHES
Asbury United Methodist Church — All in-person services and activities postponed until at least April 12. Office hours will also be limited. A pre-recorded service will be offered at 11 a.m. Sunday via YouTube and Facebook.
First Church of Christ — Sunday morning sermons are posted on the church's Facebook page. Communion is available for pick-up at the church by calling (419) 375-2860 in advance.
First Community Baptist Church (Redkey) — All services suspended through April 5.
Ohio Catholic churches — All in-person Masses and liturgies canceled through Easter.
The Rock Church — Services canceled for Sunday and March 22. Facebook page will offer prayer prompts Sunday. The March 22 service will be livestreamed online.
St. Mary Catholic Church (Dunkirk) — Closed until further notice.
Zion Lutheran — Will not hold services Sunday or March 22. Wednesday Lenten soup services this month are also canceled.
HOSPITALS/PHYSICIANS
IU Health Jay Family Practice — Saturday hours canceled until further notice.
IU Health hospitals — New visitor restrictions. Beginning March 15, no visitors will be permitted. Exceptions to allow one visitor will be considered for: Neo-natal intensive care unit (NICU), OB/delivery, Pediatrics, Emergency Department (ED), Outpatient surgery and Riley Hospital for Children.
IU Health Jay outpatient laboratory — Hours are 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to p.m. Saturday.
Mercer Health — Visitation is limited. Beginning March 16, the hospital requests that no visitors. Exceptions may be allowed for a spouse, significant other, parent/guardian or primary caregiver.
LIBRARIES
Fort Recovery Public Library — Closed.
Dunkirk Public Library — Closed
Pennville Library — Closed
OTHER
Arts Place — Closed to the public through March 31. All events, lessons and activities are postponed or canceled.
Jay County Sheriff’s Office — Jail is closed to the public. No on-site inmate visitation. Off-site visitation is available electronically.
The Portland Foundation — Closed through March 27.
Mercer County Sheriff’s Office — No on-site inmate visits. Video visits may be scheduled at mercercountysheriff.org. No civilian fingerprinting. No public tours. Public records requests should be made by phone, fax, email or online.
Jay County Solid Waste Management District's free landfill day — March 21 — canceled
Alzheimer's Support Group — March 17 — canceled
