Turned semi
A semi driver lost control of her vehicle while she was attempting to navigate the curve on Indiana 26 just before its intersection with Indiana 67, causing the semi to go into the opposite lane of traffic, off the road and flip on its side before it came to a stop in a ditch at about 12:25 p.m. Friday.
Chane J. Harris, 30, Cleveland, was transported by Jay Emergency Medical Service for treatment for minor injuries. Hannah M. James, Portland, was in the opposite lane of the semi and drove off the road and into a field to avoid a head-on collision.
Harris was driving a 2016 International Prostar registered to Western Express Inc., Nashville, Tennessee. James driving into the field caused some damage to her 2011 Chevy, which is registered to Carrie M. Funk, Portland. Total damage was estimated between $25,000 and $50,000.
Driveway accident
A Marion woman backed into an eastbound vehicle on Votaw Street as she was attempting to leave a driveway at 10:21 a.m. Saturday in Portland.
Tiffany B. Winters, 29, backed her 2005 Toyota Sienna into a 2011 Chevy Equinox being driven by Mary L. Earl, 62, Portland, causing her to lose control of her vehicle and drive into a tree. Earl was treated for minor injuries at the scene.
Winters’ view of Votaw Street from the driveway in the east 200 block was partially obstructed by a car that was parked on the street. Damage was estimated between $5,000 and $10,000.
Deer hit
Three Portland residents were unable to avoid striking deer with their vehicles over the weekend.
Bailey C. Corn, 22, hit a deer with her 2012 Dodge Avenger while westbound on Indiana 26 near county road 500 at 12:14 a.m. this morning. Damage was estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
Kyle A. Denney, 33, was northbound on Bridge Street in Portland when he drove into a deer with his 2016 Ford Taurus at 8:38 p.m. Sunday. The Taurus is a Portland Police Department vehicle. Damage was estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
Sara L. Spahr, 32, also hit a deer with her 2018 Toyota Sienna at about 4:30 a.m. Sunday on county road 800 South near county road 800 West. Damage was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
A Portland man and a Dunkirk man were unable to avoid hitting deer with their vehicles Thursday morning at around 4 a.m.
Danny L. Ellsworth, 53, Portland, drove into a pair of deer with his 2011 Chevy Malibu while eastbound on Indiana 26 near county road 600 East. Damage was estimated between $10,000 and $25,000.
Nathaniel L. Conatser, 32, Dunkirk, was eastbound on county road 200 South near county road 800 West when he hit a deer with his 2008 Honda CRV. Damage was estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
