JC adds evening pick-up window
Local schools are continuing to provide more resources to help families during the coronavirus pandemic.
Jay School Corporation announced Tuesday that it will have an additional evening window to pick up school lunches while Fort Recovery Local Schools provided additional information about its “emergency remote learning” that begins Thursday.
Also Tuesday, Mercer Health announced that it has developed a COVID-19 drive-thru testing center. IU Health continues to offer a virtual screening clinic.
Ohio and Indiana have 67 and 30 confirmed cases of COVID-19, respectively, though state health officials have said those numbers are likely much higher because few residents have been tested. There are currently no confirmed cases in Jay or Mercer counties.
Indiana had its second death from COVID-19 on Tuesday. Gov. Eric Holcomb signed an executive order activating the Indiana National Guard to be on duty to assist as needed, which could include providing temporary medical facilities.
Beginning today and continuing while schools are closed, Jay School Corporation is providing “grab and go” lunches for all students. Those are available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on weekdays in the parking lots at Jay County High School, East Jay Middle School, Westlawn, Redkey and Bloomfield elementary schools and the former Pennville Elementary School.
The corporation announced Tuesday that it will also offer an evening pick-up option for those who are unavailable during regular lunch hours. Those pick-ups will be available from 5 to 6 p.m. at door 8 at Jay County High School.
Fort Recovery Local Schools announced that teachers will be available to students electronically from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. weekdays while schools are closed. Additional details of “emergency remote learning” are being developed, though principals said at Monday’s school board meeting that Google Classroom would be utilized for that purpose.
The district will also provide “to go” lunches for students who qualify for the free and reduced lunch program. Those will be available between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. weekdays beginning Thursday in the preschool pick-up/drop-off lane at Fort Recovery Elementary/Middle School.
Mercer Health will be providing a COVID-19 drive-thru testing center at Mercer County Fairgrounds beginning today. Those who think they may need to be tested should call their primary care physician, who will provide an initial screening. If a COVID-19 test is called for, the physician will provide an order. Only those who have received an order from their physician will be tested at the drive-thru center, which will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the fairgrounds, 1001 W. Market St., Celina, Ohio.
IU Health has a free virtual clinic for COVID-19 screenings. Patients can enroll at iuhealthvideovisit.org or download the IU Health Virtual Visits app to a mobile device. For a virtual screening, then select “Coronavirus Screen” and provide the necessary information.
Fort Recovery Village Hall closed to the public Tuesday, joining Portland, Dunkirk and Redkey. It will remain closed until further notice. Utility payments can be made at Second National Bank via the night drop and drive-thru.
Redkey Town Council canceled its executive session and regular meeting that were scheduled for Thursday.
While Jay County Public Library is closed, it is offering curbside pick-up. (See related story.)
Arts Place is open but has postponed all classes, lessons and events until further notice.
