Wedding ring was lost, but now it’s found
As I See It
By Diana Dolecki-
Found it!
I lost my wedding ring a couple of weeks ago. I have searched high and low multiple times and concluded it was gone for good.
Yesterday was too warm and pretty to stay inside so I decided to clean up a couple of the flowerbeds. I was contemplating working on the bed under the maple tree when I saw something sparkly among the fallen leaves. I thought perhaps it was a drop of water or maybe some kind of shiny bug. I bent over to check it out and lo and behold there was my ring! Never in a million years did I think the gold band would show up. What are the odds I would be standing in exactly the right place when a ray of sun shone on my ring enabling me to find it? My finger feels complete again.
On the other hand, I think we may have ghosts. This is complicated by the fact that I don’t believe in ghosts but I have no other viable explanation. Assorted stuff has been falling onto the floor when nobody is around. I have several carvings lined up on a bookshelf. They are held in place by other assorted knickknacks. One in particular has ended up on the floor several times. This happens whether I surround it with tchotchkes or not. Nothing on either side is ever moved.
Doors awaiting installation have also toppled. They came crashing to the floor one afternoon. I was afraid when we picked them up that our resident chipmunk had a hand in it and was now squashed into a chipmunk pancake. Thankfully this wasn’t the case. There was absolutely no reason for the doors to fall where they did. Nothing around them was out of place. I am guessing that the ghost had a hand in it.
One of my cousins, Lee, insists that it is our cat that is causing the problem. Gracie was dozing on top of the couch that last time something crashed to the ground. Gracie is old for a cat and not prone to mischief. I told Lee that she is retired and is usually in sight when objects wind up on the floor so we know it isn’t her fault. He said that is what she wants us to believe.
This doesn’t preclude her from hiring a ghost to do her bidding.
Along with ghosts, I think a bird has evicted one of the squirrels that usually nest inside the porch soffit. I went outside and a bird flew towards my face, just barely stopping in time to avoid crashing into my forehead. From the tone of it chirping it wasn’t at all happy about my being there. Bits of stuffing, sticks and other remnants of the old nest were strewn across the porch. I swept up the mess and got out of the bird’s way.
In addition to finding a lost object that is dear to me and our ghost infestation, the coronavirus is hitting close to home. My little brother, David, had a fever and vague cold symptoms. He went to the doc who advised him to self quarantine for two weeks and to call if he got worse. He is taking vacation time to pay for this unexpected vacation.
He thinks it is just a head cold but in this day and age it is better to be safe than sorry. The COVID-19 that is the crux of the pandemic has most of us very concerned. Both David and his family hope that we are overreacting.
We also hope that my daughter has not contracted the virus. She was sent home yesterday because she had a persistent cough.
She had no other symptoms. She used her time off to record her children and a couple of their cousins who were having a mudball fight. It looked like fun.
The week has had its highs and lows. It began with a found bit of jewelry, and was followed by mischievous ghosts, an evicted squirrel and muddy kids.
It ended with loved ones who might be sick but then again might not. All in all, things are good. I hope it stays that way.
